The majority of its people are ethnic Quiche, in itself "Chichi" is famous for its adherence to religious beliefs and ceremonies that show tourists rooted traditions, as well as being where the sacred Mayan codex Popol Vuh was discovered. The market days are Thursdays and Sundays, thereby providing a colorful scene, ranging from the Santo Tomas Church (old Dominican monastery) to The Calvary Chapel that has changed little over centuries, among the products offered include textiles, carved wooden masks, pottery, paintings, vegetables, fruits and seeds, florists cannot miss and are located on the steps of the church.  During market days the church receives many faithful coming to seek the intercession of Nature for good crops and health, burning incense and candles.
